Latvians win silver medals at carp fishing world championship

Latvia's duo Pirktiņš and Kabiņeckis took silver in the individual standings at the carp fishing world championship, while the national team finished ninth overall.

At the world championship in carp fishing, Latvian anglers Pirktiņš and Kabiņeckis won silver medals in the individual competition. The event is a 72-hour endurance contest in which competitors fish continuously from the shore, with results determined by the combined weight of carp caught.

The Latvian pair's total catch weighed 194 kilograms, falling 20 kilograms short of the gold medal. Ukrainian anglers took both gold and bronze in this category.

Record number of participants

This year's championship drew a record number of competitors – 99 pairs of anglers from 33 countries, reflecting the sport's growing popularity worldwide.

Team standings

In the team competition, Latvia's national squad finished in ninth place overall. Ukraine's team won gold, Hungary took silver, and Lithuania claimed bronze.

Latvia was represented by Kabiņeckis, Deniss Višņakovs, Konstantīns Silakovs, Gatis Ozoliņš, Dāvis Bērzkalns, Emīls Rudzītis, Jozs Grušs, Vitālijs Ņečepurenko, Raivo Antrops and Rudzinskis.
