Mixed results for Latvian footballers abroad
Latvian players' clubs had a difficult evening in Hungary and Sweden, as Nyíregyháza lost at home and league leaders Norrköping saw their winning streak end.
In Hungary's top division, Nyíregyháza suffered a home defeat despite twice fighting back to level the score. The hosts took an early lead in the eighth minute, but found themselves behind 1:2 by half-time. In the second half, Barna Bencenlajtner equalized to 2:2 in the 58th minute, only for the home side to retake the lead about 20 minutes before full-time and hold on for the win.
Latvian player Regža, who had played until the 72nd minute in the previous round, was substituted earlier this time, in the 56th minute. Bencenlajtner, the equalizer scorer, received a second yellow card in the 82nd minute and was sent off. The result leaves Nyíregyháza with seven points from seven matches. The Latvian had started the season at Hradec Králové before being loaned out to the Hungarian club.
Norrköping's streak snapped
In Sweden's second-tier Superettan, a run of eight consecutive wins came to an end for Norrköping, the reigning multiple champions and current league leaders. The team could only manage a 2:2 home draw against Jönköping, who sit 12th in the standings.
Latvia's 20-year-old U21 international forward Alberts Aleksanjans came on in the 68th minute, at a point when Norrköping still led 2:1 before conceding the equalizer. Despite the dropped points, Norrköping retains a ten-point lead over its closest challenger at the top of the table.
