Latvian-linked clubs advance in the Swiss floorball cup
Latvian players Gustavs Griezītis, Andris Rajeckis and Armands Savins helped their Swiss clubs reach the 1/16 finals of the Swiss floorball cup, with next-round opponents now confirmed for several Latvia-linked teams.
Two clubs featuring Latvian players have secured spots in the 1/16 finals of the Swiss floorball cup. Top-division side HC Rychenberg Winterthur, which includes forward Gustavs Griezītis, thrashed lower-division club UH Zulgtal Eagles 15:4 away from home. Griezītis scored twice as his team built a commanding lead already in the first period. In the next round, Winterthur will face NLB league club Bassersdorf Nurensdorf.
Meanwhile, UHC Grunenmatt, home to defenders Andris Rajeckis and Armands Savins, needed a tighter 4:3 win over lower-tier opponent UHC Burgdorf. Despite leading by three goals for much of the match, the away side saw the hosts close the gap late before holding on for the victory. Rajeckis played in the second defensive pairing without registering points, while Savins was not included in the squad for this match. Grunenmatt now faces a tough draw against top-flight club Floorball Chur United in the next round.

Next-round opponents have also been confirmed for other Latvia-linked clubs: Daniels Jānis Anis's UHC Uster will play Unihockey Emme, the team led by Latvia's national coach Heikki Lukoinen, Kloten-Dietlikon Jets, will face Regazzi Verbano UH Gordola, and Jēkabs Karlsons's UHC Sarganserland will meet Ad Astra Obwalden.
Elsewhere, Morics Krūmiņš's Swedish club Warberg IC won a pre-season friendly 4:3 against Fagerhult Habo IBK, despite Krūmiņš picking up a penalty late in the match. Daniels Jānis Anis's UHC Uster finished second in its group at a tournament in Sweden but lost the final 3:10 to IBK Dalen. At junior level, Gustavs Zariņš scored a goal and added an assist as Hasselby SK IB defeated IBF Offensiv Lidingo 7:3.
