Latvian driver Vītols wins on American rallycross debut

Latvian driver Vītols, who races for the "Provento Racing" team and recently completed a successful European Supercar Lites season by winning the RallyX South championship, marked his debut in the American rallycross series in Canada with a commanding victory.

A dominant weekend

In Saturday's first two qualifying heats, Vītols finished second and fifth. On Sunday, he won both the third and fourth qualifying heats, also topping the overall qualifying standings.

In the semi-final, the Latvian driver finished ahead of American Tyler Leach and Swede Alexander Lindqvist. In the final, Vītols overcame the strongest competitors, beating Norwegian Thomas Ek Mustad and Lindqvist to claim the win on his first appearance in the series.

Results in other classes

In the FC2 Supercar class, Swede Lucas Andersson had already secured the overall season title before the final. After solid qualifying runs and a semi-final win, he finished fourth in the main race.

Meanwhile, the Hypercar class saw a fierce battle for the season championship between Finn Timmy Hansen and Swede Robin Larsson. Hansen delivered an excellent weekend, winning his semi-final and dominating the final for his second consecutive win, but the bigger story was the fight for the overall title.

Larsson, forced to start from the back row in the final after a semi-final collision with Hansen, showed impressive pace and quickly moved up to second place behind Hansen. However, two laps before the finish, Hansen passed Larsson with a decisive move on the inside of the first corner, while Larsson also clipped the outer wall. The moment decided the championship, allowing Hansen to clinch the Hypercar title by a single point, 120 to 119.
