Latvian Language Agency takes part in the 'Rakstivāls' writing festival
On August 9, the third 'Rakstivāls' writing festival was held in the 'Zeit' creative quarter, where the Latvian Language Agency invited visitors to explore the Latvian language through word games. Two more language-related events are planned for the autumn.
On August 9, the creative quarter 'Zeit' hosted the third edition of the 'Rakstivāls' writing festival. The Latvian Language Agency took part, offering visitors a range of language-themed games and activities.
Activities at the 'Language Kiosk'
At the agency's 'Language Kiosk', visitors could test their knowledge of Latvian idioms — for example, learning the meaning of the phrase 'tamborēt gailim bikses'. There was also a chance to check one's understanding of Latvian vocabulary and syntax, as well as to take part in creative exercises, using words to build 'sensory paintings' and to rework an existing text. The materials used in the workshops are now available online.
Upcoming events
The Latvian Language Agency also invited the public to future events: a European Languages Festival will take place on September 18 to mark European Day of Languages, while State Language Day will be observed on October 15. Further details about the October event will be announced later.
