Latvian buys house in Sicily for one euro after his business went bankrupt
Ivars lost his auto parts store 17 years ago and moved abroad. Now living in Ireland, he recently bought a house in Sicily for a symbolic price.

Seventeen years ago, Ivars' company, an auto parts store, went bankrupt due to the economic crisis. This forced him to seek a better life elsewhere. He first moved to Spain, then Italy, and eventually settled in Ireland, where he still lives with his wife. He now works as a furniture mover and in his free time works as a self-employed helper for farmers, cutting trees and doing other jobs. He admits he has plenty of work, but thoughts of returning to Italy never left him.
Three years ago, he stumbled upon an online ad for a house in Sicily priced at just one euro. Initially, he thought it was a scam, but after researching it thoroughly, he realized it was real. "It's a wonderful feeling when you have your own little spot in a warm corner of the world," Ivars says about his purchase. This story shows that unexpected twists can sometimes lead to something special.
