Doctors and health experts stress that regular preventive checkups remain one of the simplest ways to look after long-term health. Adults are advised to undergo certain medical examinations at specific ages, either to confirm that their health is in good order or to catch unfavorable changes early, before they develop into more serious conditions.

Early detection is often decisive: many illnesses are easier to treat and have a better outcome when identified at an early stage rather than once symptoms have already become pronounced. For this reason, preventive examinations are seen as a meaningful investment in personal wellbeing rather than an unnecessary formality.

Some checkups are free

In Latvia, part of these preventive examinations are available to residents free of charge. This means that cost need not be a reason to postpone a checkup — for the relevant age groups, such examinations may be covered under the state or insurance system.

Specialists encourage people not to delay these checkups and to find out which specific examinations apply to their age group and where they can be carried out, in order to take timely care of their health and avoid more serious consequences later on.
