Latvia registers 8.3% more new companies in nine months

Latvia registered 1,118 new companies in September, 12.9% more than a year earlier and a record monthly figure, according to data company Lursoft. Over the first nine months, registrations were up 8.3%.

Latvia registered 1,118 new companies in September 2026, which is 12.9% more than in September 2025 and a record monthly total. The figures come from Lursoft, a company that compiles business registry data. Across the first nine months of the year, the number of newly registered companies was 8.3% higher than a year earlier.

Share capital

The combined share capital of companies registered in September reached 28.57 million euros. More than half of it belongs to a single company, SIA 4A Capital, in which the Aleksejevs family invested 16.08 million euros. The day after it was registered, the company became the owner of a 50% stake in SIA Saukas kūdra. Last year Saukas kūdra's turnover grew to 11.75 million euros, and its profit after tax was 3.29 million euros.

Two more new companies have share capital above one million euros: forestry company SIA LFC Vidzeme with 6.02 million and SIA Kaamos Miera with 3.6 million. LFC Vidzeme was created by splitting off part of SIA Baltijas mežu investīcijas, a company with Swedish capital, while Kaamos Miera was registered by the Norwegian company Orkla Eiendom. All three are registered in Riga.

Regions

The largest company founded outside the capital is SIA Trešais tēva dēls in Limbaži municipality, where Mārtiņš Zālītis invested 208,500 euros. Limbaži municipality saw 13 new companies in September and 101 so far this year.

By the number of new registrations in September, Riga leads with 481, followed by Jūrmala (47), Ogre municipality (39), Daugavpils (36), Jelgava (33) and Mārupe municipality (32).

Company types

Limited liability companies (SIA) make up more than 91% of new businesses. Of these, 56.9% are low-capital companies with share capital below 2,800 euros. Six SIAs were registered with share capital of less than one euro; in almost all cases it is the owners' first company registered in Latvia. Overall, 48.9% of the new companies are their owners' first.

Foreign capital was attracted to 147 companies founded in September. Ukrainian citizens registered 36 companies, and a Ukrainian citizen holds 76% of the shares in the joint-stock company Stan Invest.
