French actor born in Latvia to reveal his adoption story at Homo Novus festival
At the international theatre festival Homo Novus, French actor Dimitri Doré will share his adoption story in the performance 'Dainas', marking a personal return to his native Latvia. The show runs at the Dailes Theatre's New Hall on September 4 and 5.
The international new theatre festival Homo Novus, taking place in Riga, is presenting a range of contemporary and thematically diverse stage works this year — from an interactive performance about bullying at the Latvian National Museum of Art to performative stories dedicated to the Daugava River in Krāslava and Līvāni, as well as an audio performance that can be experienced while walking through Riga's Great Cemetery.
A personal journey back
One of the festival's participants is 29-year-old Dimitri Doré, a stage artist living in France who was born in Latvia. He spent the first 18 months of his life in Latvia before being adopted and moving to France. Doré gained wider recognition for playing the lead role in the film 'Bruno Reidal', for which he received a César Award nomination in France.
The actor will share his adoption story and search for the truth in the performance 'Dainas', staged at the Dailes Theatre's New Hall on September 4 and 5. Doré has said that his adoptive parents have already seen the show in France, but he cannot shake the thought that someone from his biological family might be sitting in the audience in Latvia.
The festival brings together both foreign and local artists, and Doré's story stands out for its deeply personal connection to Latvia.
