Rain and gusty wind forecast for Latvia, with coastal gusts up to 20 m/s

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, the agency responsible for weather forecasting in the country, has warned of overcast skies, rain and gusty wind over the coming days. The strongest wind is expected on Sunday and Monday, when gusts on the sea coast may reach up to 20 m/s. The gusty wind will subside in the middle of next week.
Sunday
Skies will be overcast, with clearing only in places. Rain is expected in eastern districts overnight, and in the evening a new precipitation zone will cross Latvia from the west, bringing rain to western areas. Fog will form in some eastern locations and persist into the morning.
The wind will be light to moderate, from the southeast and south. From midday it will strengthen to moderate or fairly strong in western and central districts, with gusts of 15–17 m/s, and up to 20 m/s on the sea coast. Night temperatures will fall to +4…+9 degrees, rising to +10…+13 during the day.
Monday
Skies will remain overcast, with the sun breaking through only in places. A precipitation zone will cross Latvia from the west, bringing rain across most of the territory, locally heavy on the sea coast. The wind will be light to moderate, from the south and southwest, with gusts of 15–16 m/s at night. On the sea coast it will be moderate to fairly strong, with gusts of 15–19 m/s. Night temperatures will drop to +7…+10 degrees, and daytime highs will be +9…+12.
Tuesday and midweek
On Tuesday cloud cover will vary, with rain expected in western districts overnight. The wind will be light to moderate from the south, while on the sea coast it will be moderate to fairly strong from the southwest and south, with gusts of 15–17 m/s in the first half of the night. Night temperatures will be +6…+11 degrees, +4…+6 in the east, and daytime temperatures +10…+13.
In the middle of next week the gusty wind will calm down, but skies will often remain cloudy and it will rain from time to time. Air temperatures will stay in a similar range to the preceding days.
