Latvia among 25 countries with toughest driving theory exam thresholds
A new comparison of 25 countries shows Latvia requires at least 90% correct answers to pass the driving theory exam, placing it among the strictest in the world. Greece and Japan top the list with even higher thresholds.
Obtaining a driver's license in Latvia requires passing not only the practical driving test but also a theory exam, and the difficulty of these exams varies significantly across countries. A recent comparison has placed Latvia among 25 countries with some of the highest passing thresholds for the driving theory exam worldwide.
Greece tops the list
According to data compiled by the platform "AutoviaTest," the strictest requirements belong to Greece, where aspiring drivers must answer at least 97% of questions correctly. Japan follows in second place, requiring a 95% correct-answer rate.
Latvia requires 90% correct answers
In several other countries, including Latvia, passing the theory exam requires at least 90% correct answers. This means there is very little room for error, and candidates must thoroughly master traffic rules to succeed.
The comparison examined 25 countries based on the minimum share of correct answers required to pass the category B theory exam. The compilers noted that countries using grading systems not readily comparable to others were excluded from the list in order to preserve the accuracy of the comparison.
