Orange Warning Issued for Latvia: Heavy Rain and Flooding Expected
The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC) has raised the warning level to orange as an active cyclone bringing prolonged and heavy rain is set to cross the Baltic states overnight, potentially causing flooding and infrastructure damage.

Heavy Rain Warning
According to LVĢMC forecasts, an active cyclone will cross the Baltic states on July 8 and 9. On Wednesday, heavy and prolonged rain is expected in western regions, moving to central regions overnight into Thursday. Locally, very heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible. As a result, an orange-level warning has been issued, effective from 8:00 PM Wednesday to 8:00 AM Thursday.
Potential Impacts
Due to the large amount of precipitation, the soil will become saturated and unable to absorb water. Stormwater drainage systems may be overwhelmed and overflow. River floodplains and low-lying areas are expected to flood, potentially causing damage to property and infrastructure. Roads may be washed out, and other infrastructure damage is possible. In flooded areas, evacuation may be necessary.
Residents are advised to stay informed and exercise caution, especially on roads and in low-lying areas.
