Latvia issues two air-raid alerts overnight over unidentified drone
Latvia declared air-raid alerts twice overnight into September 1 after an unidentified drone entered its airspace and later continued on toward Estonia. Estonia in turn warned residents in several counties.
Several regions of Latvia saw air-raid alerts issued twice during the night into September 1, after an unidentified drone entered the country's airspace, Latvian broadcaster LSM reported, as cited by "Yevropeiska Pravda".
The first alert was declared around 2 a.m. over a possible threat in Ludza district and was lifted at 2:25 a.m.
A second alert followed around 4 a.m. for Alūksne district, prompting NATO mission patrol fighter jets to scramble. At around 4:20 a.m., Latvia's Armed Forces announced the alert had ended, clarifying that the drone which had entered Latvian territory had continued flying onward into Estonia.

In Estonia, warnings about a possible aerial threat were first sent to residents of Läänemaa and Ida-Virumaa counties, before being extended to six more counties.
It had previously been reported that countries along the Baltic Sea coast are planning to set up a joint task force for defence against drones, intended to allow faster responses to the growing threat of hybrid attacks.
