Latvia submits Viesturs Kairišs' film 'Uļa' for Oscar nomination
Latvia's national expert commission has selected Viesturs Kairišs' feature film 'Uļa' as the country's candidate for the US Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The National Film Centre announced the decision.

The annual process in which countries submit candidates for the US Academy Awards' Best International Feature Film category has begun, with Latvian films submitted for this year's international competition now having been evaluated.
Following this assessment, the national expert commission selected the feature film 'Uļa' — the latest work by director Viesturs Kairišs — as Latvia's candidate. The decision was announced by representatives of the National Film Centre (NKC).
Film already recognized internationally
Before being put forward as Latvia's candidate, 'Uļa' had already earned recognition at A-list international film festivals. The film's lead role is played by actor Kārlis Arnolds Avots.
With this decision, 'Uļa' becomes Latvia's official contender in the race for a place among the Oscar nominees for Best International Feature Film.
