Home Cafeteria Days Begin in Latvia: Hundreds of Cafés in 39 Destinations
From July 4 to September 13, Latvia will host the Home Cafeteria Days, offering a chance to explore regions through local flavors and hospitality.

This summer, from July 4 to September 13, the Home Cafeteria Days will take place across Latvia. During the event, hundreds of home cafés will open their doors in 39 destinations, inviting visitors on a journey of taste, hospitality, and local stories. The initiative aims not only to provide culinary enjoyment but also to boost local tourism, entrepreneurship, and community development.
The idea was conceived by the association "Lauku ceļotājs" (Rural Traveler), with the format borrowed from Estonia. Since 2021, the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) has co-financed the initiative, seeing it as an effective tool to strengthen regional economic activity.
Growing Popularity
Data shows the event's growth. In 2021, 448 home cafés participated, attracting over 40,000 visitors. In 2022, the number of participants rose to 496, and visitors to 60,650. In 2023, about 450 cafés hosted 65,000 guests. 2024 was the most successful year so far – 617 cafés welcomed 86,847 people. Interest remained high in 2025 as well: 584 cafés received 81,134 visitors.
Contribution to Regional Economy
Home Cafeteria Days often serve as a first step into entrepreneurship – participants test their ideas, attract initial customers, and sometimes establish permanent businesses. LIAA Director Ieva Jāgere emphasized that tourism here becomes a platform for business development, and each visitor invests in local community growth. Jeļena Kijaško, representative of the Latgale Tourism Association, added that the event allows locals to showcase hospitality, traditions, and initiative, also sparking interest in the regions beyond the tourist season.
Every weekend from July to September, visitors can choose a different Latvian location, enjoy unique dishes, meet hosts, and discover new travel destinations.
