Latvia to launch free multidimensional family therapy
From October, free multidimensional family therapy will be available in Riga and nine Latvian regions for families with 11–17-year-olds facing behavioural or other difficulties. The Ministry of Welfare and the Latvian SOS Children's Villages Association are introducing the service.
Starting in October, a new free support service, multidimensional family therapy, will be available to families in Riga and nine regions of Latvia. It is intended for families raising young people aged 11 to 17 who have behavioural, addiction, relationship or learning difficulties, as well as an elevated risk of offending. The service is aimed at the whole family, not only at the young person.
What the therapy offers
The therapy aims to help families improve their relationships, deal with everyday difficulties and strengthen their ability to overcome challenges together.
Who is introducing it
Multidimensional family therapy is being introduced in Latvia by the Ministry of Welfare in cooperation with the Latvian SOS Children's Villages Association.
Preparations for the launch
In preparation, a cooperation event was held at the Ministry of Welfare in September. Specialists discussed practical aspects of working with young people and families facing complex difficulties.
Particular attention was paid to cooperation between multidimensional therapy therapists, local governments, social services, schools and other specialists involved. The aim is for the young person and their family to receive the help they need in a timely and coordinated way.
The source does not name the nine regions, explain how to apply or say how long the therapy lasts; those details remain for the organisers of the service to clarify.
