Cigarette imports to Latvia down 6% this year
Latvia imported 1.794 billion cigarettes from other countries in the first seven months of this year, 6% fewer than in the same period last year, according to State Revenue Service data.
According to figures compiled by Latvia's State Revenue Service (VID) on the circulation of excise goods, 1.794 billion cigarettes were imported into Latvia from other countries between January and July of this year.
That marks a decrease of 113.724 million cigarettes, or 6%, compared with the same seven-month period last year.
What the data shows
The State Revenue Service regularly compiles and publishes figures on excise goods, including cigarettes brought into Latvia from abroad. The statistics allow monitoring of tobacco product flows into the country and point to a downward trend in cigarette imports over the past year.
The agency did not specify reasons behind the decline in its release, nor did it provide a breakdown by country of origin or supply route.
The figures cover the seven-month period from January through July of this year and are compared against the equivalent period of the previous year.
