“Latvijas Avīze” invites readers to test their knowledge with an August-themed quiz
The Latvian newspaper “Latvijas Avīze” has published a ten-question erudition quiz about August, featuring Latvian beliefs, forgotten month names and cultural facts. The authors warn that superficial knowledge will not be enough.

The Latvian newspaper “Latvijas Avīze” has published a new erudition quiz dedicated to August. The publication invites readers to test their knowledge but warns: being Latvian will make the tasks easier, but it will not save you. Although many people know at least one folk belief, one Latvian author and one notable calendar date, superficial knowledge will not be enough this time.
The quiz consists of ten questions. According to the article, it contains tricky beliefs, forgotten month names and cultural facts that will make even seasoned quiz participants sweat. One of the questions asks about ancient Latvian month names — participants must determine what August was called in olden times: rye month, heather month or linden month. The question is presented as a multiple-choice task with three possible answers.
The authors of the quiz emphasise that participants will need to dig deeper rather than rely only on their Latvian heritage. The quiz was published in the “Kokteilis” section of “Latvijas Avīze”, and anyone interested can check their erudition and find out how well they know August-related traditions and cultural history. Readers will have to demonstrate not only general knowledge but also an understanding of Latvian folklore and historical month names.
