Latvijas Avīze Offers a Quiz on the Holidays and Calendar Days of Latvian Ancestors

The Latvian newspaper Latvijas Avīze has published a quiz on its la.lv website that lets readers test how well they know traditional Latvian holidays and calendar days celebrated by earlier generations. The quiz has ten questions. The newspaper introduces it with the claim that a very knowledgeable person will recognise at least eight of the ten holidays.
The idea behind the quiz
The introduction notes that hardly anyone in Latvia is unsure when Jāņi (Midsummer) or Christmas is celebrated, but many do not know when people mark, for example, Jurģi. According to the newspaper, every year was full of events for Latvians' ancestors, and many of those days are still observed today.
The quiz challenges readers by asking whether they know the ancestral calendar better than most other people. It is therefore a light-hearted way to compare one's knowledge of traditions with that of other readers.
The first question
The quiz opens by asking when Miķeļi is celebrated. Three answer options are offered: 29 September, 21 September and 1 October. The remaining nine questions are available in the quiz itself on the newspaper's website.
