Latvia's men's national basketball team continues to hold 12th place in the FIBA World Ranking. Brazil sits ahead of Latvia despite dropping two positions, while four European teams — Greece, Slovenia, Italy and Finland — are ranked directly behind the Latvians.

Recent qualifying results

At the start of the next qualifying round, Latvia suffered a heavy away defeat to Croatia on August 27, losing 80:115. Three days later, playing at home, the Latvian team bounced back with an 85:70 win over Israel. The top scorer in that victory was Artūrs Strautiņš, who scored 29 points, including six three-pointers.

Group standings

With four wins and four losses, Latvia currently sits fourth in Group K. Only the top three teams from the group will advance to the World Cup. Germany, Croatia and Poland currently lead the group, each with a 7-1 record.

Top of the world ranking

The United States remains at the top of the FIBA World Ranking, followed by Germany, the reigning World Cup champion. A change occurred in third place, as France overtook Serbia, pushing Serbia down to fourth. They are followed by Canada, Spain, Australia, Argentina, Turkey and Lithuania, with the Lithuanians rounding out the top ten.
