Latvia squanders 13-point lead, falls to Slovenia in Ljubljana warm-up game
Latvia's national basketball team lost 86:89 to Slovenia in a warm-up match despite leading by as much as 13 points in the final quarter. The game was preparation ahead of the second round of 2027 World Cup qualifiers.

The Latvian national basketball team played the first of two warm-up games in Ljubljana ahead of the second round of the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifying matches, scheduled for late August. The team, coached by Jānis Gailītis, lost to the Slovenian national team 86:89.
The defeat was particularly frustrating because Latvia had built a substantial lead in the final quarter, at one point leading by 13 points. However, the home side managed to erase that deficit and secure the win for themselves.
The top scorer for the Latvian side was team captain Rihards Lomažs, who put up 20 points and added nine assists.
The match was part of the preparation period ahead of more serious tests — the second round of World Cup qualifying games expected at the end of August.
