In the first half of 2026, Latvia consumed 6.174 terawatt-hours (TWh) of natural gas, compared with 4.883 TWh in the same period last year, an increase of 26.4%.

January contributed significantly to the rise, with consumption reaching 2.344 TWh – up 98.2% year-on-year. That was the highest January consumption since 2018, the earliest year for which comparable data are available. February also saw a considerable increase, with 2.139 TWh consumed, 29.3% more than in February 2025.

In contrast, consumption declined in each of the following months. March usage fell 25.3% to 708,019 megawatt-hours (MWh), April declined 10.3% to 497,688 MWh, and May dropped 14.6% to 294,927 MWh. June consumption totalled 189,731 MWh, down 4.3% from June 2025.

According to earlier LETA data, total natural gas consumption in Latvia in 2025 was 8.832 TWh, which was 1.5% lower than in 2024.
