Latvian-Estonian Basketball League Parts Ways with General Sponsor "Optibet"
The Latvian-Estonian Basketball League will have a new general sponsor after ending its partnership with "Optibet" following two seasons.
The Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (LIBL) has ended its cooperation with the gambling company "Optibet", which had been the league's general sponsor for the past two seasons. According to Gert Kīli, Secretary General of the Estonian Basketball Federation, the competition in the gambling sector is so intense that both sides mutually agreed to terminate the partnership. While there was an option to extend the contract, a new agreement could not be reached, and the league will now seek other potential sponsors.
Estonian media report that the next general sponsor's contribution could be around one million euros over three seasons. Previous general sponsors of the LIBL have also been gambling companies: "Olybet" and "Pafbet".
The ninth season of the LIBL is set to begin at the end of September. It will officially feature 14 teams, but the participation of a 15th team, "Ekselences centrs", is still being considered.
