Latvian Cup final pushed back to late November this year

The Latvian Cup final between Auda and Riga will take place on 20 November this year, the latest date for the final in at least two decades. The delay stems from Riga's packed schedule due to European club competitions.

Although the Latvian top-flight Virslīga season will wrap up its final round on 8 November, fans will have to wait considerably longer to learn this year's Latvian Cup winner. The final between Auda and Riga will not be played until 20 November.

This marks the second consecutive year that these two clubs have met in the Cup final, with the match traditionally hosted at Skonto Stadium in Riga. The main reason for pushing the final into late November is Riga's demanding fixture list, driven by the club's involvement in European club competitions.

Latest final in at least two decades

The 20 November match will be the latest date a Latvian Cup final has ever been played in at least the past twenty years. Since 2017, when the competition switched from a autumn-to-spring format to being completed within a single calendar year, the final had consistently been held by the end of October, ahead of the Virslīga's closing rounds. This year the order is reversed — the league champions will already have celebrated their title before the Cup final is even decided.

Road to the final

In recent years, only three clubs have regularly reached the Cup final: Auda, Riga and RFS. This year RFS was the odd one out, losing to Riga in the semifinal. Auda, meanwhile, secured its final spot with a dramatic semifinal win over Daugavpils.

Auda defended its title last year, beating Riga 2:1 in the final. Overall, both clubs have each won the Latvian Cup twice in their history — Riga in 2018 and 2023, and Auda in 2022 and 2025.
