Both Riga giants advance to Latvian Cup semifinals

Sunday brought two more semifinalists to the Latvian football Cup, as both of the capital's leading clubs, "Riga" and RFS, came through their quarterfinal matches successfully.

"Riga" delivered a convincing home performance against "Metta," winning 4:1. The first half ended scoreless, but the hosts took control after the break, with a goal from Kaju Ferreira followed by two more from Raki Auani. "Metta" managed only a late consolation goal, while the winning side added one more strike right at the finish.

RFS booked their semifinal spot away from home, edging past "Super Nova" 1:0. The match's only goal came early in the first half following a set-up pass.

With these two wins, both Riga clubs join the semifinalists already confirmed. On Friday, "Daugavpils" secured their place by beating Ogre's "United" at home. One quarterfinal match remains, with "Auda" set to host "Grobiņa" on Monday.

Upcoming schedule

The Latvian Cup semifinals are scheduled for early September, while the final is planned for late October. Last season's trophy went to "Auda," who defeated "Riga" in the final.
