Talsi to host fifth round of Latvian Autosprint Cup
On Saturday, September 5, the CVS track in Talsi will host the fifth round of the Latvian Autosprint Cup. Drivers will complete two laps of the 1.8-kilometre course, with the best two of three runs counting toward the final result.
The Latvian Autosprint Cup season is entering its decisive phase, and on Saturday, September 5, competitors will gather at the CVS track in Talsi for the fifth round of this year's championship. With only two rounds remaining, every point gained in Talsi could prove crucial.
The CVS track is already familiar to Cup participants, as autosprint visited Talsi last year. This time, drivers will face a 1.8-kilometre course consisting of two laps. Organisers say that even though the distance is relatively short, there are plenty of places where seconds can be gained or quickly lost.
Competition organiser Gatis Krastiņš explained that drivers will not be sent onto the track side by side. Instead, they will start at safe intervals to avoid one competitor catching another. That does not make the task easier – everyone must complete the full distance of two laps at their own pace. The format allows less experienced drivers to focus on their own performance without worrying about overtaking, while for seasoned racers the fight for tenths of a second remains demanding.
One of the most interesting elements at Talsi will be the ramp. The challenge does not end with the jump, because a corner follows immediately, and drivers will need to find the right balance between speed, courage and precision. According to Krastiņš, it is precisely in such places that valuable seconds can be won or lost.
Each participant on September 5 will have three runs, and the final result will be based on the best two attempts. This means one mistake or a less successful run will not decide everything – there will be a chance to return to the track, try a different line and fight for a better time.
This season, the Latvian Autosprint Cup consists of six rounds, so the Talsi event will be the penultimate one. After four rounds, the fight for the overall standings continues in several classes. The Cup is also an opportunity for those who want to try motorsport without a rally car and a large team – a street car prepared in accordance with the rules is enough. Participants compete in various classes, with machinery ranging from standard front-wheel-drive cars to rear- and all-wheel-drive vehicles and more serious competition-prepared machines. Separate classes are also available for juniors and women.
