Latvian legionnaires abroad: Vientiess assists Teplice win, Silagailis sent off again
Latvian footballers featured across European leagues this week — defender Roberts Vientiess set up a goal in Teplice's league win, while Haralds Silagailis picked up his second red card of the season in Finland.
Czech top-flight side Teplice secured a league victory featuring a 23-year-old Latvian defender who has played every minute of all four rounds in his debut season there. In the 80th minute of the win, he provided the assist for a Nigerian forward to open the scoring, before a second goal followed in the 88th minute. Teplice now have ten points from six matches.
The opponent Teplice defeated this season previously lost to Riga's RFS in Europa Conference League qualifying (0-2, 1-2) but went on to eliminate Glasgow Rangers on penalties after two low-scoring matches. That same club is set to return to Riga on 5 November to face local side Riga FC.
Red card in Finland
In Finland's second-tier league, Latgale-born player Haralds Silagailis received his second red card of the season, dismissed as early as the 24th minute with the score still level. His team went on to lose 2-6 at home to an Helsinki youth side and now sits bottom of the table with 12 points from 21 rounds.
Elsewhere
In Norway's second division, midfielder Lūkas Vapne registered an assist, but his team lost and dropped to 12th place. In Poland's First League, forward Vladislavs Gutkovskis was substituted in a match that finished level. In Lithuania's top division, forward Dāvis Ikauniekss played the full match for a side beaten by league leaders Sūduva, while both Žalgiris clubs from Kaunas and Vilnius failed to win their respective matches.
