Latvia's national motocross team achieved its best-ever result at the Motocross of Nations on Sunday in France, finishing fourth among 19 competing teams. The squad consisted of Pauls Jonass along with brothers Jānis Mārtiņš and Kārlis Alberts Reišulis.
Three races
In the first race, featuring MX1 and MX2 class riders, Kārlis Alberts Reišulis finished 13th while Jānis Mārtiņš Reišulis placed 20th. That race was won by French rider Romain Febvre.
In the second race, the Latvian team posted its strongest showing — Jonass finished third, while Jānis Mārtiņš Reišulis came in 12th. In the third and final race, Jonass placed eighth, while Kārlis Alberts Reišulis finished 16th.
Final standings and historic achievement
Adding up points from all three races, Latvia's team totaled 52 points, securing fourth place and edging out the United States team by a single point. Belgium claimed the overall title with 23 points, with Spain finishing second and the Netherlands third.
This fourth-place finish marks Latvia's best-ever result at the Motocross of Nations. The previous best was eighth place in 2019, while last year Jonass and the Reišulis brothers placed ninth. Latvia first competed at the Motocross of Nations as an independent country in 1992.
