Latvian accommodation prices push travelers to look abroad

A social media debate highlights that vacationing in Latvia now often costs more than trips to Poland or even Asia, prompting many to reconsider local tourism.

A discussion on Threads sparked widespread commentary about the cost of accommodations in Latvia. The original poster asked what could be found for 60 to 90 euros per night, calling the situation “good humor.”

Many commenters admitted these prices strain family budgets. One woman shared her experience: wanting a few days by the sea in Latvia, she found it cheaper to drive to Poland, including fuel, four days at Energylandia, two-day park tickets, and two nights in the mountains. The total was less than three days at a Latvian seaside resort.

The thread also mentioned Asia, where rooms with breakfast cost around 39 euros. While some argued the comparison was unfair, the poster justified it by saying for longer vacations—three weeks or more—living by the sea in Asia is cheaper than in Latvia.

Overall sentiment shows people wish to travel locally and support Latvian businesses, but high accommodation prices make such trips unaffordable for many families.
