A cross-border project called "CB-Food UK" was launched this June to help small and medium-sized food companies from Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Sweden prepare for export and enter the United Kingdom market. The initiative responds to the fact that, since the UK's departure from the European Union ("Brexit"), the route to the buyer has become more complicated.

A promising market that is harder to reach

The United Kingdom is a large and promising market for Latvian food producers. Since Brexit, however, customs and border control requirements have become stricter, logistics costs more, and product labelling and packaging must be adapted to new requirements.

An additional difficulty is that for a small company, reaching the large retailers on its own can be both expensive and time-consuming. The project is intended to reduce these obstacles.

The role of the Enterprise Europe Network

Cooperation with the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), the European business support network, is an essential part of the project. For companies, it will combine consultations, international contacts and financial support for specific export activities in one place.

This gives small and medium-sized food producers from the four countries an opportunity to prepare for exports without having to overcome these barriers alone.
