Latvian Post to issue first holographic postage stamp
Latvia’s postal service will release the country’s first postage stamp featuring a holographic image on 6 August. The stamp, dedicated to the Ventspils science centre “Vizium”, has a face value of 4.41 euros and a print run of 7,000.
Latvian Post has announced that a new stamp will go on sale next week, becoming the first in Latvia’s philatelic history to feature a holographic image. It will be available on Thursday, 6 August. The stamp is dedicated to the “Vizium” science centre in Ventspils and will be issued as part of the series “Latvia’s Contemporary Architecture”, which is why the first-day cancellation will take place at the centre itself.
The face value of the new stamp is 4.41 euros, matching the postage rate for letters weighing up to 20 grammes sent to other countries. The print run is planned at 7,000 copies, and 500 specially designed envelopes will be issued at the same time.
First-day cancellation will be held on 6 August from 11:00 to 15:00 at the “Vizium” science centre in Ventspils. According to the company, the location was chosen deliberately, as the stamp is part of a series on Latvia’s contemporary architecture and honours this particular building.
Latvian Post stresses that holographic technology has been used in stamp design for the first time in the country. It allows two different visual layers to be seen in a single image, changing depending on the viewing angle. This approach lets the stamp capture both the exterior of the “Vizium” building and its inner world of learning and technology.
