Latvia women's lacrosse team starts World Championship second division with a win
Latvia's women's lacrosse team defeated South Africa 17:4 in their opening match of the World Championship second division in Wrocław on Saturday.

The Latvian women's national lacrosse team got off to a strong start in the second division of the World Championship on Saturday, July 11, in Wrocław. In their first Group A match, Latvia decisively beat South Africa with a score of 17:4.
Valērija Bernāne led the scoring for Latvia with four goals. Alma Naja netted three, while Elīna Cēbura, Mara Zajaca, and Ieva Zeiļuka each scored twice. Līva Balode, Suzanna Peniķe, Elīna Ruperte, and Sofija Vorena each added one goal. Cēbura also provided four assists.
Latvia's upcoming games are scheduled on consecutive days: Sunday against South Korea, Monday against the Netherlands, Tuesday against Spain, and Wednesday against New Zealand.
The second division tournament features 12 teams divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals, while the remaining teams compete for fifth place and lower positions.
Four years ago, Latvia's women's team finished 20th in the top division. This year, the championship is split into two levels, with 16 teams in the elite division.
