Latvia's women's lacrosse team lost 9:11 to Hong Kong in the second division semifinal for fifth place at the World Championship and will play for seventh place on Saturday.

Latvia's women's lacrosse team lost to Hong Kong 9:11 (3:2, 3:1, 2:3, 1:5) in the second division semifinal for fifth place at the World Championship on Wednesday, July 17.

Alma Naja, Estere Urbančika and Mara Zajaca each scored two goals, while Līva Balode, Valērija Bernāne and Elīna Ruperte each scored one. Sofija Vorena contributed three assists.

On Saturday, Latvia will conclude the tournament with a match for seventh place.

Earlier in the group stage, Latvia defeated South Africa 17:4, lost to South Korea 7:9, beat the Netherlands 9:6, beat Spain 12:9, and lost to New Zealand 3:14.

The second division consists of 12 teams divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group advanced to the semifinals, while the rest compete for fifth place.

Four years ago, Latvia placed 20th in the top division of the World Championship. This year, the tournament is split into two divisions, with 16 teams in the top division.
