Latvian Women's Volleyball Team Secures Historic Win Over Greece

The Latvian women's national volleyball team ended their European League campaign with a stunning 3-2 victory over Greece (26:28, 27:25, 13:25, 25:22, 15:8) in Tallinn, Estonia. Greece, a participant in last year's World Championship, suffered their first loss in this year's European League.

Head coach Daniele Caprioti hailed the win as the most significant for Latvian women's volleyball in three decades. "This is probably the biggest victory for Latvian women's volleyball in 30 years," Caprioti said. He emphasized that the team's progress throughout the tournament was more important than any single result, noting that the players could have won four of their six matches.

Libero Kristīne Kramēna described it as the biggest win of her career. "They didn't expect us to come onto the court with such confidence—we caught them by surprise," Kramēna said. She added that despite a five-set loss to Estonia the previous day, the team managed to regroup and show great fighting spirit.

Meanwhile, the Latvian men's team lost 2-3 (25:18, 20:25, 18:25, 25:21, 12:15) to Switzerland in Volda, Norway. The same opponent will face Latvia in three months at the European Championship. Player Armands Rokjāns commented that the match was good overall but lacked selflessness in some moments. "When we raised our emotions, we moved very well on that wave," Rokjāns said, noting that Switzerland focuses heavily on their middle players, which requires further analysis.
