Latvian students achieve country's best-ever result at International Geography Olympiad

Latvian students have delivered the strongest performance in the country's history at the International Geography Olympiad. In the overall team ranking, Latvia placed fifth in the world, outperforming the majority of participating nations.

The individual results were equally impressive. Of the four members of Latvia's national team, one student won a gold medal, two others took silver, and the fourth brought home bronze. This means all four Latvian participants returned with medals — a result reflecting the high level of preparation among the country's young geographers.

Both silver medalists are students at Jelgava State Gymnasium (Spīdola), highlighting the school's strong tradition in geography education.

The International Geography Olympiad is one of the most prestigious academic competitions for students, bringing together young people from around the world to test their geographic knowledge and skills. This year's performance by the Latvian team is being seen as a significant milestone in the country's educational history.
