Latvian snooker player Prisjažņuka falls to former world champion in tight UK Championship clash
Anna Prisjažņuka was eliminated in the last 16 of the Women’s UK Championship, losing 2-3 to former world champion Mink Nutcharut while earning 250 ranking points and £250.
Latvia’s Anna Prisjažņuka reached the last 16 of the Women’s UK Championship, where she narrowly lost to Thai player Mink Nutcharut, the 2022 world champion and current world number three in the women’s tour rankings.
Prisjažņuka finished second in Group C. She began the round-robin stage with two victories, but then fell 1-2 to India’s Anupama Ramachandran in the contest for top spot.
The knockout draw proved unfortunate for the Latvian, as she was paired with Mink Nutcharut already in the first round. The Thai player won the world title in 2022 and is presently ranked third on the women’s circuit.
In the last-16 match, Prisjažņuka took the opening frame, scoring about 20 points in her best visits, and moved ahead. Mink responded by winning two consecutive frames, including a half-century break in the third, to take a 2-1 lead.
The former world champion then came close to finishing the match, building a 45-point lead over several visits in the fourth frame. However, she could not close it out, and Prisjažņuka levelled the scores. Later, the Latvian potted the additional black ball into a pocket, restoring parity and forcing a deciding frame. Mink was stronger in that decider, and Prisjažņuka eventually lost 2-3.
For reaching the last 16, Prisjažņuka received 250 ranking points and the same amount in pounds.
In the final of the Women’s UK Championship, double world champion Julu Bai claimed her third consecutive title, beating twelve-time world champion Reanne Evans 4-1.
