Latvia's U17 women's basketball team lost to Canada 54-82 on Saturday, July 4, in the second game of the 'Torneo de La Palma'. The next match against Ivory Coast is scheduled for Sunday at 3:00 PM.

The Latvian U17 women's basketball team continues its preparation for the World Cup in the Czech Republic. On Saturday, July 4, in the second game of the 'Torneo de La Palma', Latvia lost to Canada 54-82. Canada's height and athletic advantage was most evident in the first seven minutes, but later, with accurate three-point shooting, Latvia found its rhythm. In the second and third quarters, Latvia scored only two points less than Canada, and the deficit remained 15 points early in the fourth quarter. However, Canada dominated the rebounding battle (22-56, offensive 3-26) and eventually reached 80 points.
Top scorers for Latvia were Šarlote Skrebele with 15 points (three 3-pointers) and Melānija Lagunoviča with 11 points (three 3-pointers), while Enija Brokāne added 7. The team currently has 14 players, as Helēna Arāja did not play due to an ankle injury, and Kristija Joma could not practice due to a stress reaction in her foot. It is also known that Sindija Sondore and Marta Pētersone will not play in the World Cup.
The trip to the Canary Islands was extended due to the cancellation of one 'AirBaltic' flight, so the team will stay overnight in Madrid both on the way to and from the tournament.
On Sunday, July 5, at 3:00 PM, Latvia will face Ivory Coast. After that, the team will head to the Czech Republic for the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup, where they are placed in Group A with the USA, Australia, and Ivory Coast. The first game is scheduled against Australia, followed by Ivory Coast and then the USA.
