The Latvian U18, U20, and U23 Athletics Championships begin today, July 3, at 12:00 PM at the BTA Daugavas Stadium in Riga. The event brings together the most promising young athletes who have met the qualification standards this season. Among the participants are several season leaders: Ieva Malnača, Emīls Lamba, Emīlija Vīksna, as well as European junior bronze medalist Adriana Krūzmane and European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) medalist Brendā Džiliāna Apsīte.

The two-day program includes all classic athletics disciplines – sprints, hurdles, middle and long distances, steeplechase, race walking, jumps, throws, as well as the 4x100m and Swedish relay. Sprint events promise particular excitement, with heats and finals in the 100m, 200m, and U18 hurdles. Middle-distance runs, throws, and jumps are expected to feature fierce competition for every centimeter and second.

Beyond competing for titles, athletes will look to prove their readiness for international competitions and earn spots on Latvian national teams. The second day of competition on July 4 begins at 11:00 AM. This annual championship traditionally serves as a launching pad for future Latvian team leaders – many of the country's top athletes began their path to European and world championships here.
