Latvia's U21 team hosts Germany at Daugavas Stadium

Latvia's U-21 men's national football team plays host to Germany today at Daugavas Stadium in Riga in a qualifying match for the 2027 European Championship. Kick-off is set for 19:00, with the Latvian Football Federation streaming the match live on its "futbols.tv" platform.

After this fixture, Latvia's young footballers continue their qualifying campaign with an away trip to Greece on October 1, followed by a home match against Malta on October 6.

Previous results and group standings

The qualifying cycle began a year ago, when Latvia lost 0:5 away to Germany. That was followed by a 1:1 home draw with Georgia, a 0:1 home loss to Greece, a 0:1 away defeat to Northern Ireland, and a 1:0 home win over Malta. This past March, Latvia drew 1:1 away with Georgia before losing 1:3 at home to Northern Ireland.

After seven matches, Germany and Greece share the lead in Group F with 18 points each. Northern Ireland has 10 points, Georgia nine, Latvia five, while Malta remains without a point. Germany forward Nicolò Tresoldi, who plays for Belgian club Club Brugge and is also eligible to represent Italy, is the cycle's top scorer.

In June, Latvia's U-21 side competed in the Baltic Cup, drawing with both Lithuania and Estonia.

Road to the final tournament

The 2027 European U-21 Championship finals will be held in Albania and Serbia, featuring 16 national teams. In qualifying, teams are split into nine groups; each group winner plus the best runner-up advance directly to the finals, while the remaining eight runners-up will contest playoffs for four additional spots.
