Latvian Men's Beach Volleyball Team Wins Nations Cup, Secures Extra European Championship Quota
Latvia's men's beach volleyball team, composed of Mārtiņš Pļaviņš/Kristians Fokerots and Edgars Točs/Gustavs Auziņš, defeated Norway in the final to win the Nations Cup, earning an additional spot for the 2026 European Championships.
The Latvian men's beach volleyball team claimed victory at the Nations Cup final tournament on Sunday, defeating Norway 2-0 in the title match. The team featured two pairs: Mārtiņš Pļaviņš/Kristians Fokerots and Edgars Točs/Gustavs Auziņš.
In the first match of the final, Točs/Auziņš faced Norway's second pair, Nilss Ringēns/Evens Ass, and won convincingly with scores of 21:15 and 21:15. This was a sweet revenge for their earlier group-stage loss to the same Norwegian duo (10:21, 12:21). The second pair, Pļaviņš/Fokerots, then took on Matiass Bertsens/Hendriks Mols and triumphed 21:12, 21:16, closing out the match from 16:15 with a decisive block by Fokerots. Since the overall score reached 2-0, no golden set was required.
The Nations Cup champions earn an additional quota for the 2026 European Beach Volleyball Championships (August 12–16). This quota is particularly valuable for pairs that may not qualify through ranking, such as Točs/Auziņš, for whom this was the only realistic path to the championship. A similar situation applied to the women's pair Līva Ēbere/Deniela Konstantinova, who, along with Tīna Graudiņa/Anastasija Samoilova, lost in the quarterfinals to Slovenia. In the women's tournament, Ukraine won the title by defeating Italy in a golden set.
Latvia's road to the final was impressive: they advanced from the group stage, then defeated Hungary and the Netherlands in the knockout rounds, before dominating Norway in the final.
