Latvia's men's and women's national volleyball teams are concluding their participation in the European League today and tomorrow. Although both squads have lost the opportunity to finish among the top four teams, which would have guaranteed a spot in the 2028 European Championship finals, every victory still matters in the battle for higher rankings.

The women's team will face Estonia in Tallinn at 6:00 PM today, while the men will play Norway in Norway at 8:00 PM. Both matches will be broadcast live on LTV7.

Despite the elusive top-four finish, the teams emphasize the importance of each game. Men's player Gustavs Freimanis stressed that the team remains motivated, as every win and even every set result affects their ranking, which is crucial for future qualification. The team is also focusing on development, as several new players and a new coaching staff have joined this summer.

Men's head coach Uģis Krastiņš noted that the focus remains on their own performance, but acknowledged that Norway has become much stronger, with players from top leagues around the world. Norway is currently 20th in the tournament standings, while Latvia is 13th.

After the match against Norway, the men's team will face Switzerland on Saturday in Volda. Afterwards, they will have a two-week break before preparing for the European Championship finals at the end of the summer.

The women's team faces Estonia today. A few years ago, Estonia was a role model, but now Latvia enters as the favorite. Team captain Paula Nikola Ņečiporuka expressed excitement for the matches in Tallinn and hopes to test their strength against Greece. She noted that in previous games against stronger opponents, the team has shown good performance even when the result was not favorable. Estonia has not won any match in the tournament so far; Latvia is 13th, while Estonia is 21st.

Both teams will later shift focus to preparing for the European Championship finals.
