Latvia stun hosts Romania to open European volleyball championship with a win

Latvia's men's national volleyball team delivered a pleasant surprise to volleyball fans by defeating hosts Romania 3:1 (26:24, 18:25, 25:21, 26:24) in their opening match of the European Championship in Cluj-Napoca.

The result marks a historic moment, as it is only the second victory for the Latvian national team at European Championships in the tournament's entire history.

Leading Group D

Thanks to this win, the team led by head coach Uģis Krastiņš has claimed its first three points in Group D and currently sits in first place. The result is considered an important step toward reaching the playoff stage of the tournament.
