In an interview for the show "Rīta Panorāma," Latvian Basketball Federation (LBS) general secretary Kaspars Cipruss discussed current developments in Latvian basketball. Among the topics raised was news that the United States U-17 national team has already expressed interest in a player named Beruē.

A string of youth basketball successes

The conversation touched on Latvia's men's U-16 team, which celebrated a European Championship triumph on Sunday, taking the gold medal. That success has created a positive backdrop for other national teams — this week, Latvia's women's cadet (U-16) team is attempting to follow suit, having already secured a place in the tournament semifinal.

Preparing for World Cup qualification

Cipruss also addressed the senior men's national team, which is currently in serious preparation for upcoming FIBA World Cup qualification matches. This shows that Latvian basketball is working on multiple fronts at once — developing youth national teams while also preparing experienced players for international competition.

The information shared by the federation's general secretary indicates that Latvian basketball is going through an active period, marked simultaneously by youth achievements, preparation for major challenges at the senior level, and interest from foreign national teams in promising young players.
