Rastorgujevs and Sandra Buliņa win mass start races at Latvian summer biathlon championship
The second round of the Latvian summer biathlon championship concluded in Cēsis with mass start races, where Andrejs Rastorgujevs and Sandra Buliņa won the elite categories.
On Sunday, September 27, the second round of the Latvian summer biathlon championship concluded at the Cēsis Olympic Center skiing and biathlon base with mass start competitions. On the second day of racing, athletes in various age groups competed in a mass start cross-country format, while the youngest participants in the M13 and W13 groups opened the day with a 1.2-kilometer run.
Elite categories
In the men's 7.5-kilometer mass start, Andrejs Rastorgujevs claimed a convincing victory, making only two shooting errors across four stages and finishing in 37:20.3. Matīss Meirāns took second place after 10 shooting misses, finishing 3:16.5 behind the winner, while Kristiāns Kārlsbergs placed third, trailing by 5:24.6 minutes.
In the women's 6-kilometer race, Sandra Buliņa took first place despite 11 shooting errors, finishing in 35:55.3. Her sister Sanita Buliņa finished second, 1:36.3 minutes behind, while Enia Kalniņa-Kārlsberga placed third, 7:48.4 minutes off the pace.
Younger age groups
The M21 category produced a tight battle, with Adrians Māris Šņoriņš winning by just 16.2 seconds over Olivers Bresme. Jānis Žagars won the M19 group, while Martīne Djatkoviča was fastest among W19 competitors. Markuss Āboliņš took the M17 title, and Jeļizaveta Boroņenko won the W17 group. In the M15 category, which featured 24 athletes, Toms Makstnieks finished first, while Ariana Kodaļeva topped the W15 group.
In the veteran categories, victories went to Rainers Upenieks (M30), Andis Pušņakovs (M40), Mareks Birkentāls (M50) and Leonīds Valdonis (M60). The day's competitions opened with the youngest participants, with Emīls Nils Krūmiņš fastest in the M13 group and Luīze Spalviņa winning the W13 category.
