French far-right leader Marine Le Pen has voiced support for the US decision to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to December's G20 summit in Miami, a move already criticized by Poland's prime minister.
Marine Le Pen, the informal leader of France's National Rally party, has expressed support for US President Donald Trump's decision to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G20 leaders' summit set for Miami in December. Le Pen made the comments to Politico, as cited by Yevropeiska Pravda.
She said she welcomes any initiative aimed at ending what she described as the "slaughter" of the war in Ukraine.
Rubio says meeting needs a concrete outcome
A day earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he hoped Putin would attend the summit hosted by the United States in Miami this December, while stressing that any such meeting would need a clear purpose and result.
Poland's concerns and Zelensky's proposal
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk had earlier voiced concern over the US decision to invite Putin to the Miami summit. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, meanwhile, suggested the G20 summit could serve as a venue for a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine, the US and Russia.
According to Bloomberg, Putin is likely to skip the US-hosted G20 summit, which President Trump is also expected to attend.
