Ļebedevs Finishes Fifth in Speedway Grand Prix Round in Sweden

Latvian speedway rider Andžejs Ļebedevs finished fifth in the sixth round of the Speedway Grand Prix season, held in Målilla, Sweden, on Saturday. He advanced to the semifinal.

In the main heats, Ļebedevs scored 10 points. He was fastest from the start in his first two races but lost the lead to Australian Brady Kurtz in the first heat, while holding off Czech Jan Kvěch in the second. In his third heat, he finished second behind Polish rider Patryk Dudek after a less successful start. In the fourth heat, he fought a tight battle with Danish rider Michael Jepsen Jensen to finish second. In his final qualifying heat, he took third place, enough to secure a spot in the semifinal.

Starting from fourth place in the standings, Ļebedevs competed in the second semifinal. After the first corner, Danish rider Anders Thomsen overtook him on the outside. Ļebedevs could not catch up but finished ahead of Swede Kim Nilsson and Pole Dominik Kubera, placing second in the semifinal and fifth overall.

In the final, Thomsen executed another excellent move after the first corner to take the lead and win his second career Grand Prix. Robert Lambert was second, Bartosz Zmarzlik third, and Kurtz fourth.

Earlier on the same track, the SGP4 (190cc) world championship race took place, where young Latvian rider Valters Bušs finished eighth. He placed third in four of five heats and won the last one.

After six rounds, Zmarzlik leads the overall standings with 98 points, followed by Kurtz with 93. Ļebedevs is in 11th place with 44 points.

The 2026 Grand Prix season includes ten rounds, with the eighth scheduled for early August in Riga, and the final round in Poland in late September. Last season, Ļebedevs finished sixth overall.
