NBA star LeBron James has revealed that after the New York Knicks won the championship by beating the San Antonio Spurs, he decided not to join the team to avoid excessive criticism. As a free agent, he chose among five other teams.
NBA legend LeBron James has revealed that he seriously considered continuing his career with the New York Knicks, but ultimately decided against the move.
James said he had often pictured himself playing at the famous Madison Square Garden and finishing his career there. He described the arena as one of the best venues he has ever played in, calling it the best arena in the world from a player's perspective.
A change of heart after the title
After the Knicks won the NBA championship by defeating the San Antonio Spurs, James realized that joining the team was no longer an option for him. He explained that making such a move after the team's success would bring so much criticism and so many rivals that he decided to rule it out.
Choosing among five teams
As a free agent, James had to choose between five teams: the Philadelphia 76ers, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat, the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors. He noted that during the upcoming season he would be living in both Philadelphia and New York, pointing to ties with more than one of these cities.
