Lego to release near-life-size original PlayStation console set

Lego will launch a nearly 1:1 scale replica of the original PlayStation console on October 1, featuring 1,911 pieces and two hidden dioramas, priced at $180.

Lego has unveiled a new building set replicating the original 1995 Sony PlayStation console at a scale the company describes as nearly 1:1. The announcement came during today's State of Play livestream.

The set contains 1,911 pieces, and the finished model will measure 10.5 inches wide once assembled. It recreates both the console itself and its controller, including working mechanical buttons — though these serve no functional purpose since the model isn't an operational console.

Hidden dioramas

Tucked inside the model are two small dioramas dedicated to classic PlayStation titles: Ape Escape and Gran Turismo. The Ape Escape diorama depicts an island scene featuring one of the game's simian characters, with builders able to choose between a red or blue light for its helmet. The Gran Turismo diorama includes a miniature racetrack complete with tiny cars.

Not the first collaboration

While this marks Lego's first hardware replica tied to PlayStation, it isn't the company's first partnership with the brand. Back in 2022, Lego released a set based on the game Horizon Forbidden West. Since then, a game called Lego Horizon Adventures has also been released, accompanied by another, smaller-scale building set.

The new PlayStation console set goes on sale October 1 for $180.
