Leigh's defensive heroics deny league leaders Leeds

Leigh Leopards travelled to Leeds and came away with a 20-16 victory that ended the Rhinos' perfect home record in this Super League season.

The visitors led 14-14 at half-time, with Innes Senior crossing for two tries before the break. It was Leigh's defensive performance after half-time, however, that stood out most, restricting Leeds to just two points in the second half and highlighting the progress the side has made under coach Adrian Lam.

Despite dominating possession and territory throughout the match, Leeds were unable to find a way through the Leopards' defensive line. The defeat means Wigan could draw level with Leeds at the top of the table if they beat Bradford Bulls on Saturday.

Leeds winger Ryan Hall, who scored a try just two minutes after returning from injury, appeared to have rescued the game late on, but his second try was disallowed after the referee ruled his trailing foot had gone into touch.

Leigh's other tries came from Craig Charnley and Chris Hanley, while the Leopards had Badrock sin-binned in the 61st minute. Chris Kendall was the match referee.
