Alternative Choir Concert Held in Lejasciems – Disagreement Among Participants

On Saturday, July 11, two choir concerts took place simultaneously: the large 'Manai dzimtenei' at Mežaparks Great Stage and an alternative concert at Lejasciems stage, with nearly 30 choirs participating due to fundamental disagreements with the main event organizers.

Last Saturday evening, July 11, two major choir concerts could be heard across Latvia at the same time. Both featured songs by maestro Raimonds Pauls, but the participants were divided.

At the Great Stage in Mežaparks, the concert 'Manai dzimtenei' took place with thousands of singers and a large audience. Meanwhile, nearly 30 choirs decided to hold an alternative concert at the Lejasciems stage. The reason – fundamental disagreements with the organizers of the main event. No further details on the nature of the disagreements were provided in the source.

The alternative concert also attracted many participants. Organizers noted that the number of those wishing to take part was high. The concert ran parallel to the Mežaparks event, allowing the audience to enjoy Pauls' music at both venues.

This situation, where choir collectives chose a separate stage, highlights tensions within Latvia's choral singing community. However, both concerts were successful, offering singers the opportunity to perform according to their convictions.
